Delone Carter's Run for the Record Book

This past Saturday in Syracuse's tremendous upset win in Morgantown, Delone Carter moved past another Orangeman on his journey up the All-Time Rushing Leaderboard. In just over a quarter of action on Saturday Carter picked up 75 yards on 9 carries.

DC3's action was limited due to a hip bruise he suffered early in the 2nd quarter. It was the same hip Carter injured in 2007 that forced to miss the entire season. Doug Marrone said Delone was cleared to practice and will be on the field today when the Orangemen look to continue their impressive play against Cincinnati on Saturday.

Carter needed just 29 yards to pass #9 on Syracuse's All-Time Rushing List Damien Rhodes who has 2,461 total yards. The 75 yard performance gives Delone 2,508 yards in his career, just 43 yards behind #8 rusher Bill Hurley's 2,551 yards.

Interestingly enough, Bill Hurley was not a running back, but in fact played quarter back at Syracuse University from 1975-1979. Hurley was born in Buffalo, NY and set 22 school records while on the Hill. When Hurley graduated he left Syracuse as the all-time leading passer, total offense leader and 3rd leading rusher. Bizarrely enough Bill Hurley was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 4th round as a safety and played much of his career at defensive back. Bill Hurley is currently 7th on Syracuse's All-Time Passing List and 4th All-Time in total offense.

Top Ten All-Time Rushers in Syracuse Orangemen History:
1. Joe Morris 4,299
2. Walter Reyes 3,424
3. Larry Csonka 2,934
4. James Mungro 2,869
5. Floyd Little 2,704
6. David Walker 2,643
7. Dee Brown 2,626
8. Bill Hurley 2,551
9. Delone Carter 2,508
10. Damien Rhodes 2,461
